Tue-Sun 10am-6.30pm
Bluerider ART Taipei•Dunhua New Gallery opens with the inaugural exhibition, “Rising in Fire: Hantoo Art Group — The Making of Taiwan’s Art History,” which pays tribute to the Hantoo Art Group, a collective that braved turbulent times and pioneered a new chapter in Taiwan's art history.
"Hantoo” means defending painting—with the paintbrush as a blade. Known for their bold style, direct critique, emotional intensity, and strong personal perspectives, Hantoo is one of the most iconic artist collectives in Taiwan’s contemporary art history. Founded in 1998 by 13 like-minded Taiwanese artists, the group has endured authoritarian rule, social transformation, and the shocks of globalization. Through it all, they have witnessed Taiwan’s cultural shift from the margins to self-definition, remaining steadfast in their commitment to artistic independence and critical expression. Over three decades of brotherhood, shared struggle, and revolutionary camaraderie have made Hantoo an irreplaceable presence in the international art world.
