Mon-Fri 10am-5pm
25 June 2026 | London | full auction details
This summer in London, Sotheby’s stages a landmark exhibition and sale of masterpieces from the renowned Lewis Collection. Estimated in excess of £150 million ($200 million), this will be the most valuable single collection ever offered in London, bringing together some of the greatest achievements in modern figurative painting.
Assembled over decades by Joe Lewis and his daughter Vivienne, many of the works in the collection have been exhibited in major museums across the globe – a testament to their exceptional art historical significance – and many have not been seen on the open market for decades, if at all.
Masterpieces from the Lewis Collection will be presented in the Modern Day auction on 25 June, led by Pablo Picasso’s exceptional portrait of Dora Maar, alongside works by other artists from the canon of modern masters.
Spanning a century of paintings, drawings, and sculpture, the Modern Day auction showcases the evolution of artistic innovation from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century. From Impressionism to the revolutionary avant-garde, the sale reflects the bold spirit with which artists challenged convention and reshaped the course of art history. Sotheby’s remains open to consignments for the Modern Day auction. Please contact a specialist listed below for a free, confidential and without obligation valuation of your art work.
