6 rue du Trésor, 75004 Loredana Nemes: Falling Into Now
Tue-Sat 12-7pm
Artist: Loredana Nemes
Spanning more than two decades, Loredana Nemes’s body of work occupies a unique place in contemporary photography. Born in Romania in 1972, she initially studied German and mathematics in Aachen before turning her attention to photography. Based in Berlin, she develops long-term series, each with its own distinct visual language. Her approach is neither cold nor systematic, but deeply sensitive: Nemes constantly questions the medium, its limits, and what it can still reveal.
Falling into now presents two worlds that invite enchantment. With Overexposed, a series born of a deeply personal experience of grief, Nemes turns away from the visible world to work with the very substance of the image. On AGFA photographic paper, exposed directly to the sun, the excess of light paradoxically produces an absolute black, dense and vibrant. Then comes the gesture: a diagonal cut with a craft knife, a white line crossing the surface, neither drawing nor writing, but a breath, a fracture and a new beginning. These works enter into dialogue with the vast landscapes of Graubaum und Himmelmeer, beech forests and seascapes photographed over the course of four seasons above the chalk cliffs of the Baltic.
To fall into the present is to find an anchor: to fully consent to presence, to what is there, now.
