91 Paul Street, EC2A 4NY Boris Camaca: Locomotion (The Unfinished Path) II
Tue-Sat 11am-6pm
Artist: Boris Camaca
NıCOLETTı presents Locomotion (The Unfinished Path) II, the second solo exhibition by French artist Boris Camaca at the gallery. Continuing the cycle of works Camaca developed for his first institutional solo show, held at Plato, Ostrava, CZ (2025–26), the exhibition features a series of double-sided photographs that reflect on the act of capturing movement and the ethical and formal implications of image-making.
“Throughout the exhibition, Camaca explores photography as both a technical system and a space of interplay between control and contingency. For him, the work begins not with the subject but with the machine: a system of lenses, sensors, timings, and adjustments through which images are produced. Negotiating the interaction between human intention and machine logic, Camaca’s work foregrounds the generative dimension of technique – a space of calibrated certainty in which he produces what might be called, in reference to Paul Auster, a ‘music of chance’.
Within this framework, movement operates as both formal and critical principle. Many of the images depict bodies in motion – walking, running, shifting –, an interest Camaca relates to his study of chronophotographic experiments such as those of Eadweard Muybridge. Here, however, the artist departs from any analytical deconstruction of movement – rather than treating the image as a form of capture, his work considers the recording of physical gestures as an ethical operation, one that entails participation from the subject. In so doing, he photograph becomes less a fixed representation than a shared process in which movement functions as a form of consent and shared of the image – whether the subject is a drone, a cat or a fashion model.”
