Galleri Magnus Karlsson presents the group exhibition Along the Road at Hellvi Kännungs, Gotland, this summer.

Galleri Magnus Karlsson has invited eight of the gallery’s painters to take part in the exhibition. They are each contributing one new work. There is no unifying theme, and if one emerges, it is purely by chance. On view here are eight of our most prominent artists from partly different generations, born between 1952 and 1997. They share many commonalities and a certain kinship, but have rarely been exhibited together. They all have a conviction in the possibilities of painting and a desire to carry forward a painterly legacy that is nurtured and developed in a constant dialogue with the present and with history.

This exhibition offers a glimpse along the road, giving us the opportunity to see, through the individual works, where the artists stand at this very moment. It may also offer a hint as to where they are heading. In a group exhibition featuring entirely new works, unexpected encounters and connections always arise. In the dialogue between the works, we can discover shared tendencies and powerful collisions. By exhibiting a significant painting by each artist and giving them sufficient space, the idea is to provide an opportunity both to delve deeper into the individual works and to create a tangible field of tension within the exhibition space.
