Sun-Tue 8.30am-midnight, Wed-Sat 8.30am-2am
sketch, Mayfair’s iconic destination for bold design and culinary innovation, unveils an exhibition by leading design studio and collectible design gallery, AGO Projects, presented in collaboration with Patrón Tequila. The first time the gallery has exhibited in the UK, the exhibition, titled ¡hola, London!, presents the fantastical and functional works of Mestiz, the studio founded by Mexican designer Daniel Valero, and transforms the entrance and reception spaces of the Grade II* listed building.
Founded by Rodman Primack and Rudy F. Weissenberg, AGO Projects is a Mexico City and New York-based design practice and representation space that champions a new wave of socially and environmentally conscious artists and designers. With a mission to promote craftsmanship, creativity, and global collaboration, AGO Projects is known for curating work that merges contemporary design with traditional artisanal practices.
Daniel Valero, the designer of Mestiz, is based in San Miguel de Allende where he works with local craftspeople to produce most of his work. The pieces to be shown at Sketch were originally commissioned by the Denver Art Museum, and are a celebration of wild landscapes, folkloric symbolism, and handmade artistry. Drawing inspiration from the lush yet arid semi-desert environment surrounding Valero’s home, the installation reimagines organic forms through a surreal and sculptural lens. Serpentine benches appear to move mid-slither, while lamps and sculptural objects unfurl like blooming desert flora. Every piece has been carefully handmade using local materials and time-honoured techniques, transforming natural elements into works of design imbued with life and movement.
Valero is known for creating mystical spaces where the seemingly ordinary becomes extraordinary, his practice through Mestiz brings together functional objects with fantastical forms. The resulting experience invites visitors into a dreamlike terrain that blurs the boundaries between nature and design, folklore and modernity.
For the exhibition, additional pieces have been created by several local Mexican artists, artisans and craftspeople, including custom petate mats, handweaving phrases and sentiments that relate to the experience of Sketch, a universal language for pleasure and enjoyment. Additionally, London-based Mexican artist Daniel Gordian Mora brings the exhibition to life with a series of hand-painted agave plants.
The exhibition is supported by PATRÓN® Tequila, the world’s number one super-premium tequila. Patrón has built its reputation on the very values celebrated in this exhibition: artisanal craft, dedication to quality, and deep respect for tradition. Both embody a belief in shared values - honoring heritage while embracing innovation. Just as the work on display in ¡hola, London! thrives by choosing craft over convention, Patrón’s process celebrates authenticity at every step, from hand-harvested agave to small-batch distillation. The partnership with AGO Projects and sketch reflects Patrón’s ongoing commitment to supporting Mexican creativity and craftsmanship on a global stage. Just as Daniel Valero collaborates with local artisans to bring unique, handcrafted pieces to life, Patrón works alongside its own community of expert craftspeople - from agave harvesters to glassblowers who hand-finish each distinctive bottle. Through this collaboration, Patrón not only complements the sensory and cultural richness of the exhibition but also amplifies its celebration of artistry, heritage, and the beauty of the handmade.
This collaboration forms part of sketch’s ongoing 2025 exhibition programme, which continues to spotlight global talent and forward-thinking creative practices, reinforcing its role as a platform for artistic dialogue in the heart of London.
