From Sea to Sky - The Blue Axis

Bluerider ART LA•Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles

Sat 20 Sep 2025 to Sun 23 Nov 2025

1030 Manhattan Beach Blvd, CA 90266 From Sea to Sky - The Blue Axis

Tue-sun 10am-6.30pm

Blue is the primal spirit of Bluerider ART, a color of continuity and becoming, a dimension in which art is perpetually generated. The “Blue Axis” is not merely geographical—it begins in Taipei, crosses Shanghai and London, and now reaches Los Angeles, the fourth global site of Bluerider ART. This axis stretches across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, uniting spirit and practice, culture and nature. It marks a milestone for the gallery’s platform while carrying forward the legacy of Kandinsky’s Der Blaue Reiter, a belief in art as the knight of thought, connecting East and West, and opening dialogues on freedom, becoming, and boundlessness.

Bluerider ART LA • Manhattan Beach occupies 15,000 square feet across four interconnected octagonal structures. Designed in 1953 by renowned architect John Merrill Gray, the complex is an iconic example of mid-century modernism. With its bold polyhedral forms, expansive glass walls, and integration of gardens and a seven-meter reflecting pool, the architecture dissolves the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. Here, space is no longer a backdrop but a generative field: the act of walking, viewing, and contemplation becomes part of the artwork itself.

The inaugural exhibition From Sea To Sky—The Blue Axis features 16 internationally acclaimed artists from 10 countries—Germany, Taiwan, Spain, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, France, the Czech Republic, and Argentina—presenting 22 works that embody the imagery of “blue.” Across painting, sculpture, installation, and video, these works traverse borders to reflect on East–West cultural dialogues, universe and life , nature and science, and the self in relation to the other. The exhibition responds to philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s notion of Becoming—art as a process not of linear change from A to B, but of fluidity across heterogeneity and boundaries, constantly generating new possibilities.

Highlights include, Willi Siber’s Baroque Pearl — combining baroque opulence with organic rhythms in minimalist elegance. Yang Mao-Lin’s Coelacanth L1901— a dramatic and unconventional work using deep-sea creatures as metaphors for self and history. Josep Riera i Aragó’s Seven Airplanes Flying to the Left — painting and assemblage combining aviation and mechanics in a pursuit of freedom. Cao Jigang’s Half Mountain — merging Western tempera techniques with Eastern landscape philosophy to reveal a path of harmony and transcendence. Carol Prusa’s Wellspring — a six-meter scroll envisioning regeneration, resilience, and cosmic creation. Nick Veasey’s Captain America —X-ray precision photography exposing the hidden worlds beneath surfaces. MARCK’s Geggenstorm — video sculpture fusing virtual and physical space to explore the desire for escape.

From Sea To Sky—The Blue Axis is more than a geographical expansion; it is a vertical axis of thought, stretching from the depths of the sea to the boundlessness of the sky. It channels currents of sensibility toward freedom of spirit, embodying the core energy that drives Bluerider ART’s curatorial practice. The exhibition stands not only as a diverse presentation of fine art but as a new cultural wave for the Southern California coast—a luminous beacon for the spirit and soul.
