Sotheby’s is delighted to present Collection Fred Feinsilber, de Giacometti à Brauner, a remarkable group of works assembled by Fred Feinsilber (1940–2021). Born in Romania into a Jewish family of Russian origin, Feinsilber settled in France after leaving Eastern Europe and built a successful career as an industrial chemist before devoting himself fully to collecting.
Reflecting his passions for books, tribal art and 20th-century modernism, the collection brings together works by major artists including Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Jean Dubuffet and Alberto Giacometti. At its heart stands an extraordinary group of twelve works by Victor Brauner, reflecting the special affinity Feinsilber felt for the Romanian-born Surrealist. Comprising more than 300 works in total, the collection offers a vivid portrait of a passionate and discerning collector’s eye.
