“fifty years of Italian history through masterpieces of design and art”
This book, published by Repetto gallery, presents a selection of objects, furniture, drawing and unique pieces from the 1920s to the 1970s, designed, curated and collated by Gio Ponti. The publication was inspired by Ponti’s exclamation in his “Aria d’Italia” that everything at the sea has to be colourful.
Detailing fifty years of Italian history through masterpieces of design and art, the book includes works by Lucio Fontana, Leoncillo and Fausto Melotti.
Ponti collaborated with many manufacturers and artisans, “the agile hands” as he called them. The book highlights glass bottles made in Venini’s furnace in Murano, his legendary Leggera and Superleggera chairs, and the unique iron gate-sculpture from 1967.
