General Assembly, together with Polben’s Pigment, presents Layers of London, a collaborative exhibition exploring London through colour and material experimentation.
Layers of London considers the city through its material traces, layers of geography and human history embedded in the city. Rather than treating London as a subject to be represented the exhibition shows what happens when pieces the city itself become part of the work. Through colour material and alchemy, London is transformed.
Each artist participating in the show was gifted a handmade Layers of London pigment palette set. Each pigment was produced by Polben’s Pigment from materials collected in, or historically associated with, London, including mineral, bone, lake pigments, as well as synthesised copper.
