Artist: Thierry Oussou
“Veins of Amsterdam” is an exhibition that emerges from a collaboration with GVB workers and from the artist’s close observation of Amsterdam its streets, metro, parks, and the many spaces through which the city moves and lives.
Drawing on their everyday experiences, GVB workers share stories and personal accounts that reveal the often-unseen role they play in shaping the city’s daily rhythms and keeping its public transport system in motion. Through video performance, Oussou creates a space for these workers to speak, to be seen, and to share their experiences in their own voices.
Alongside these video works, the artist paints Amsterdam through stories. The paintings offer intimate glimpses of the city and its inhabitants, capturing everyday encounters, movements, and moments unfolding in public space.
What makes Amsterdam work, and what remains beyond our attention?
“Veins of Amsterdam” unfolds around this question, inviting us to look at the city from a different perspective to notice the people who keep it moving, the everyday interactions that shape it, and the stories that often remain invisible.
