During Amsterdam Art Week, ISO presents SWARM, an exhibition bringing together 50 artworks by 50 international artists based at ISO. A wide-ranging mix of small- and large-scale installations, films, sound works, paintings, drawings and sculptures in ceramic, metal and glass, the exhibition offers a collective portrait of an artistic community after nearly a decade of openness, experimentation and growth.
Like a swarm entering a new environment, SWARM offers a glimpse into the vitality, diversity and eclecticism of a community in constant movement and production. Across ISO’s studios, artists work with ceramics, wood, metal, glass, painting, drawing, video, sound, performance, and other forms of experimentation. These practices coexist, overlap and occasionally transform one another, without belonging to a single aesthetic or medium.
The richness of this ecosystem also emerges through encounters: shared workshops and tools, conversations, collaborations and exchanges of knowledge create connections between artists, disciplines and ways of working. Experimentation develops through curiosity, trial and error, dialogue and the unexpected.
In SWARM, individual works retain their distinct identities while becoming part of a larger, shifting composition. Together, they reflect the interconnected and constantly evolving ecosystem of ISO, a community shaped as much by its encounters and exchanges as by the works produced within it.
SWARM brings together 50 artworks by 50 international artists based at ISO, spanning small- and large-scale installations, films, sound works, paintings, drawings, sculpture, and works in ceramic, metal and glass.
Participating artists include Katja Novitskova, Natacha Mankowski, Esther van der Heijden, Natalia Jordanova, Jun Zhang, Anne-Margreet Honing, Noémie Tshisumpa, Octave Rimbert-Rivière, Sasja Houba, Paulina Koeleman, Jesse Andriesse, Sondi, Jonathan Vervoort, Lana Bolkvadze, Lorena Solis, Maruxi, Lou Buche, Alexis Bondoux, Noah Cohen, Nosh Neneh, Jelte Reinders, Sophia Bulgakova, Sohyun Park, Guido van Amelsfoort, Dorka Morvai, Caro de Valk, Qiao Chu Guo and Nikola Woudstra, among many others...
The exhibition also activates ISO’s new space as a place for gathering, taking a moment to reflect, and witnessing the beauty of the collective: another environment within the ecosystem, opening up new possibilities for what can happen next.
Curated by Florence Parot, co-founder and artistic director of ISO, in collaboration with Chaeeun Lee as Associate Curator and Artist Liaison, SWARM emerges from a desire to gather and make visible the increasingly diverse and talented ecosystem that has developed around the organisation.
