Artist: Markus Keibel

curated by Luisa Catucci

In PATRIARCHY FADES THE FUTURE RISES, Markus Keibel turns his attention to structures that present themselves as fixed—philosophical systems, canonical images, and inherited narratives—and patiently takes them apart, revealing that what appears permanent is often only an arrangement of parts.

The exhibition centres on Keibel’s intervention into Gustave Doré’s 1865 illustrations for the Bible. By selecting almost exclusively the images depicting women, he brings to the surface a recurring history of women being traded, blamed, punished, or discarded, their bodies and choices made to carry consequences that were never theirs to bear.

Judith, chosen for the exhibition invitation, stands apart in the scene of the Decapitation of Holofernes: the entrance of a beautiful, free, and powerful female figure whose presence exposes the fragility of the men around her. A woman who, in a society in which she should traditionally be subject to male authority, turns seduction and deception against the violent male figure before her, becoming at once an instrument of the community and an unsettling figure of female agency.

Across steel, paper, silk, and wood, Keibel’s new series continues his recurrent gesture of dismantling and reassembling. Circles are taken apart, images are reduced to fragments, and structures designed to appear permanent become movable, interchangeable, and open to transformation.

The works move between the historical and the contemporary, from Doré and Dante to Simone de Beauvoir, tracing the ways in which ideas of womanhood have been constructed, repeated, and presented as destiny.

PATRIARCHY FADES THE FUTURE RISES is an exhibition about what happens when inherited structures are no longer treated as foundations, but as propositions—something that can be questioned, rearranged, and ultimately allowed to fade.

We look forward to celebrating this new opening with you.
