Stellarhighway presents Nearly Somewhere, co-curated with the writer Harry Tafoya and featuring the work of eleven emerging, mid-career, and established American and European artists from across seven decades.
Nearly Somewhere presents a selection of modern and contemporary abstract landscape painting that explores the ways in which artists turn to nature to find inspiration and locate meaning. The artists in the show work in the tradition of Milton Avery, Charles Burchfield, J.M.W. Turner, and Claude Monet by rejecting grand narratives to focus on perception, memory, and one-to-one emotional engagement with the natural world. By concentrating beaches, pastures, forests, deserts, and oceans to their most basic elements of line, color, and form, these artists create an opening for contemplation, a window for the viewer to map their inner lives onto small, yet vast painted horizons.
