Artists: Rachel Whiteread - Lee Friedlander - Richard Rezac
Maison Leleu and Luhring Augustine present a collaborative installation of works by gallery artists Lee Friedlander, Richard Rezac, and Rachel Whiteread featured alongside Maison’s creations.
The collaboration marks a continuation of Alexia Leleu’s family tradition of bringing contemporary art into dialogue with the decorative arts. Luhring Augustine has a long history of similar partnerships with colleagues around the world, bringing the work of artists from the gallery’s program to new audiences. Rather than a juxtaposition of disciplines, this project explores the resonance between artistic practices and Maison Leleu’s living legacy. Displaying the modern and the historical practices together creates an exchange that bridges and collapses time, enlivening the traditional within the present and grounding the contemporary within a heritage. Furthermore, the dialogue between the decorative and contemporary arts generates unexpected affinities, revealing what move us beyond specific practices, styles, and periods.
