Artist: Kees Goudzwaard
During Amsterdam Art Week, Slewe Gallery presents an exhibition featuring new paintings by Kees Goudzwaard (b. 1959, NL).
Goudzwaard creates abstract compositions. At first glance, his works appear to be minimal colour studies constructed from rectangles of paper and masking tape. Upon closer inspection, however, they reveal themselves to be meticulously crafted trompe-l’oeil paintings. To create them, Goudzwaard first constructs a paper model. Using small pieces of paper, transparent film, and tape, he designs a collage on a background of coloured paper or cardboard, often spending a long time refining the final composition. Once finished, he renders a full-scale painted illusion of it on canvas.
This is Goudzwaard’s first solo exhibition at Slewe Gallery. Previously, Goudzwaard regularly exhibited at Zeno X Gallery in Antwerp.
