Fabric of Play explores the transformation of traditional Moroccan fabrics into unexpected expressions of art and design. Through a playful approach to colour, texture and form, ZOUBIDA (Sophia Kacimi) gives familiar materials new identities, moving between craftsmanship, fashion and art.
ZOUBIDA is the creative world of French-Moroccan designer and artist Sophia Kacimi. After fifteen years working with international fashion houses, she now divides her time between London and Fès, Morocco, where she works closely with her father and a network of local artisans.
At the heart of her practice are traditional Moroccan jacquard upholstery fabrics, deeply rooted in domestic interiors and everyday life. Rich in colour, pattern and cultural history, these fabrics become the starting point for experimentation.
Through unexpected combinations of texture, shape and function, ZOUBIDA transforms these familiar materials into one-of-a-kind "art-to-wear" and "art-to-use" creations, challenging the boundaries between art, fashion and design.
Collaboration plays an essential role in her work, bringing traditional craftsmanship into new contexts while creating opportunities for the people involved.
Fabric of Play invites visitors to discover how material, craftsmanship and imagination come together, revealing new possibilities in the familiar.
