Rozenstraat 59, 1016 NN, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Open: Wed-Sat 1-6pm
Artist: Kinke Kooi
ROZENSTRAAT – a rose is a rose is a rose presents "Eromheen", a solo exhibition by Kinke Kooi. For this exhibition, Kinke Kooi transforms the space of ROZENSTRAAT into a total installation in which new and existing works come together.
Kinke Kooi's work speaks not only to the eye, but also engages the senses and the bodily experience of space. Ornaments, colours, soft materials and forms unfold as a sensory world in which the boundaries between artwork, space and body dissolve, making room for enclosed, intimate inner worlds.
Kooi invites visitors not only to relate to her images, but to enter them, as it were: to open themselves up to another way of looking, feeling and experiencing, one that seeks a profound understanding of the other.
Kinke Kooi (b. 1961) has held solo exhibitions at CAPC Musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux and the National Gallery Prague (both 2025), among others. Her group exhibitions include presentations at the Rijksmuseum; Kunstmuseum Den Haag; Centraal Museum and Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (all 2025); FRAC Corsica (2023); The Drawing Center, New York and Ludwig Forum, Aachen (both 2021).
Kooi's work is held in numerous public and private collections, including those of the Rijksmuseum and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. In 2023, she received the Gerrit Benner Prize, which included a solo presentation at the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden.
ROZENSTRAAT – a rose is a rose is a rose is a presentation space for contemporary visual art, with a particular focus on performance and video art. We are artist-driven: artists are central to what we do, and we make every effort to support them and their work and career. For each exhibition we commission new work, actively contributing to their artistic development. Through solo exhibitions and a dynamic public programme with reading groups, workshops and performances, we introduce our audience to the artists' ideas and inspirations.
Come celebrate the festive opening with us during Amsterdam Art Week, Friday 20 November, 5–7 pm.
