Some collections represent far more than a remarkable group of works of art: they tell the story of an extraordinary family. The works presented in this sale, drawn from the Durand-Ruel Collection, bear witness to the legacy of a family whose passion, vision and commitment profoundly shaped the history of modern art.

For more than five generations, the Durand-Ruel family championed the most innovative artists of their time with unwavering conviction, often in defiance of prevailing taste and market forces.

From their earliest support of the Barbizon School to the international recognition of Impressionism, Paul Durand-Ruel played a decisive role in the emergence of modern art. As a collector, dealer, and patron, he championed artists including Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, and Eugène Boudin, while also supporting Eugène Durenne, Gustave Loiseau, Henry Moret, and many other painters whose names are now inseparable from the history of the Durand-Ruel gallery.

Bringing together works that have remained in the family's possession for generations, this sale offers a rare insight into this dynasty of visionary collectors. Each work represents a chapter in an extraordinary story: that of a family who, against all odds, helped secure the place of these artists among the great masters of modern art.
