Artist: Amy Magee

Findlay Galleries presents a solo exhibition of new paintings by British artist Amy Magee (b. 1997) at the New York gallery. Inspired by the landscapes and artistic heritage of the South of France, Magee brings intuition and art-historical memory to contemporary abstraction. Her paintings revisit classical ideas of composition, light, and perspective while giving form to her experience of place.

A move from an urban setting to Provence brought a marked change to Magee’s palette and sensibility. Her process often begins with a brief encounter with a classical painting, which she later reconstructs from memory. Recognizable passages give way to tactile paint; petal-like forms, atmospheric veils, and sweeping gestures move across imagined terrain. The resulting works evoke fleeting impressions held long enough to be reconsidered in paint.

Magee holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of Exeter and completed a residency at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her work has been exhibited in London, New York, and Florence and is held in private collections worldwide.
