Palm BeachWall Hangings: The African Motifs and More
Findlay Galleries presents Wall Hangings: The African Motifs and More. A unique collection of timeless and diverse hand-woven tapestries from African artists and European masters. Delight in the exploration of bright vivid colors and bold patterns conceived by Senegalese Aubusson tapestry weavers as well as the bold primary colors and unique designs inspired by contemporary artists Léger, Lichtenstein and Calder.
The Senegalese Aubusson woven tapestries are rare and unique. Manufactured in Senegal at decorative arts factories, they are often given as gifts to Royal and Presidential dignitaries. Composed on large looms and hand woven by each artist, they can take years to complete. Often fewer than 8 tapestries are made of each design.
Wall hangings and woven textiles have an enduring history dating back to the 3rd Century BC, making them one of the oldest forms of art. Findlay Galleries has gathered together a unique collection of tapestries that represent a variety of styles from modern African artist to European masters. These contemporary tapestries are often large-scale and are representative of some of the greatest examples of weaving in modern history.
Findlay Galleries invites you to view this bold and unique exhibition as well as their collection of 10 elegant galleries on two spacious floors, encompassing three centuries of art in the heart of Palm Beach.
