Victoria Sin is a Toronto-born artist using speculative fiction within drag performance, moving image, writing and print to refigure attitudes towards gender, sexuality and historical discourses of identity.

Sin’s drag practice emerged from their interest in male drag performance, and subsequent desire to explore exaggerated femininity as a drag queen born female. Their use of drag can be viewed as a way to purposefully embody gender ideals in order to question their continued existence in our systems of representation.

In 2013, Sin began performing drag at Vogue Fabrics club nights in Dalston, and has since combined drag with multimedia art forms, as displayed in their exhibition at S|2. Sin’s recent practice increasingly involves looking at storytelling as a collective way of narrating the marginalized experience, which Sin explores in their moving images and texts. They are particularly interested in the use of science fiction as a way of visualizing alternative narratives and social structures to those in our own social context.

In their exhibition at S|2, Sin’s drag performance is accompanied by speculative fiction in the form of writing, print and moving images to explore drag performance as a method of owning pre-existing social and sexual storylines.

Sin’s recent exhibitions include The Brunel Museum, London; the South London Gallery, London; Park Nights at The Serpentine Gallery, London and DRAG at The Hayward Gallery, London. They were awarded the Young Contemporary Talent Prize by The Ingram Collection in 2017.
