The paintings and sculptures are about similarities or imitations of our visible and material world. From a graphic collection of motifs and references from art history and the history of iconography. history of iconography, these working models are not imitated but imitated, but rather translated into a kind of succession. The edge of an invention is the goal. The title of the exhibition is a phonetic word collage that could also be the mirror image of a title for a novel or the name of a rock band.

Experience, intuition and the intention to make them visible, is a basic concept for the artist’s work.

Thomas Scheibitz became known to a worldwide audience with his central installation in the German Pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005. He is one of the best artists “I could find in my country,” wrote curator Julian Heynen in the Biennale catalog, and Scheibitz continues to live up to this high esteem in his work today.

The list of his exhibitions is impressive and international, accompanied by extensive catalogs, publications and artist books, such as “Masterplan\kino” at Kunstmuseum Bonn and Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, Ludwigshafen, 2018 or “Pablo Picasso x Thomas Scheibitz” at Museum Berggruen, Nationalgalerie Berlin, 2019/2020.

Thomas Scheibitz, *1966 in Radeberg, lives in Berlin and has been represented by Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, New York and SprüthMagers, Berlin, London, Los Angeles since the beginning of his international career. This exhibition is the first at Walter Storms Gallery.

The main of work in our precisely planned presentation Tender – X is expanded by 20 paintings, all created in the last two years. Scheibitz’s formal language, which he has consistently developed over the years, gives rise to clearly set and also mysterious pictorial compositions. His choice of forms is about similarities and imitations of our visible and thing-like world.

“The title of this exhibition is a phonetic word collage that could also be a mirror image of a title for a novel or the name of a rock band.” Thomas Scheibitz
