Our Tableaux et Dessins 1300-1900 sale brings together more than a hundred works of art in two sessions covering 600 years of art history, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, from Italy to the Netherlands, and from Spain to Austria and France.

Italian Baroque painting will be honoured with the beautiful discovery of a majestic Saint Bartholomew by Luca Giordano, kept in the same prestigious Spanish family since the mid-19th century, but also with an important Saint Jerome by Guerchino. Genoese painting in particular will occupy an important place with an interesting sketch by Paolo Gerolamo Piola for a ceiling in the Palazzo Durazzo-Pallavicini in Genoa, as well as an important Saint Francis by Bernardo Strozzi.

The great French masters of the 17th and 18th centuries will also be well represented, with an elegant portrait by Philippe de Champaigne, a group of pastels including a beautiful study by Maurice Quentin de La Tour, and works by Nicolas Mignard and Lancret. The sale will continue with an important sketch for The Mass of Saint Basil by Pierre Subleyras, whose rediscovery completes the corpus of works by the artist. Finally, there is a charming and surprisingly fresh portrait of Roslin, as well as an important composition by Jean Naigeon depicting him in his studio, a beautiful unpublished portrait by Largillierre, and two interesting compositions by Léonard Defrance.

Our sale will also focus on the Dutch and Flemish Golden Age with important still lifes including a basket of fruit by Jacob van Hulsdonck and a refined composition by Pieter Claesz, as yet unpublished. The session devoted to the Northern schools will continue with two astonishing allegories by Jan van Kessel and a beautiful composition by Frans Snyders.

An exceptional group of sketches by Baron Gérard and his workshop will be the highlight of the rich section devoted to the 19th century; this fine ensemble will be presented alongside an important historical painting by Morel-Fatio, as well as works by Gérôme, and a powerful composition by the Austrian Alexander Rothaug. Finally, we should mention a beautiful sketch by Prud'hon for the painting in the Louvre Minerva Leading the Genius of the Arts to Immortality.
