Heirlooms from one of England’s hidden, yet illustrious Regency houses, Spetchley Park in Worcestershire, tell the story of the extraordinary Berkeley Family. As one would expect from a stately home, this collection is a veritable treasure trove and includes exhibits from the private 19th century Museum established at the house, locked away for over a century. Objects of great rarity and importance jostle alongside whimsical pieces amassed over a period of 400 years. A common thread throughout is the variety of items discovered by the family on their travels and adventures across Europe, North America and colonial India. This collection also features a group relating to the extraordinary Ellen Willmott, famed horticulturist and sister of Rose, who married into the Berkeley family. Their love of the natural world and gardening resulting in works of art decorated in an abundance of foliate motifs and colour.
