Artist: Robi Walters

This is Robi Walters’ first solo show at Grove Gallery. The exhibition, titled “A Nation of Millions,” refers to the multitude of hand-cut petals that comprise his intricate collages. Each tiny piece in his work unifies to form a whole, mirroring his spiritual practice where individual elements blend into a singular, cosmic consciousness. This concept also alludes to his early years, particularly the influence of hip hop culture on him as he began his creative journey with graffiti writing. In 2023, a pivotal year marking the “50th Anniversary of Hip Hop,” Walters found it especially fitting to honor this genre. The album “It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back” by Public Enemy had a profound impact on him. As a British youth of West Indian heritage, whose grandparents were part of the Windrush generation, the title holds a significant meaning, connecting his heritage across the Atlantic. Robi Walters is a London-based artist who, in 2018, inaugurated his own gallery and studio space in Soho’s vibrant heart, currently operating from this studio/showroom. His captivating, colorful collages have garnered attention from celebrity collectors such as Rob Rinder, Michael Bublé, Bryan Adams, Mark Noble (West Ham), Thandie Newton, Stellan Skarsgård, Maxim from the Prodigy, and Major Lazer’s Diplo and Jillionaire. In 2017, Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt received a piece from Robi. Music remains a significant influence in his work, leading to collaborations with prominent musicians like U2, Mary J Blige, and Sir Paul McCartney to support various charities. These entrancing, socially-conscious artworks stem from sacred geometry, exploring internal spaces and the tranquility he finds in daily meditation. Over the last decade, his body of work has conveyed the art of transformation, utilizing discarded materials to offer a unique perspective on consumerism, consumption, and waste. Robi’s artistic process mirrors his life journey; transforming neglected objects into coveted art pieces echoes the spirit of transformation that has reshaped his life. Continuously pushing his limits, Robi Walters is determined to turn his dreams into reality. Additionally, his recent appearances on Sky News, BBC London, and GB News have brought further attention to his show ‘A Nation of Millions,’ highlighting his unique artistic vision and the powerful messages embedded within his work.
