Richard Serra continues to produce rigorous and intense engravings. His two new compositions, entitled Backstop, combine etchings and the use of paintsticks on a double panel exploring mass and equilibrium, as is often the case in his sculpture.
In addition to these new works, we are exhibiting a number of engravings from the Composite suite, conceived in 2018-19, the printing of which was delicate, requiring many months of effort. They combine aquatint and paintstick applied via screen-printing to produce a texture with an impressive density.

This exhibition of etchings by Richard Serra at Galerie Lelong & Co., prepared in collaboration with the Gemini G.E.L studio in California, is testimony to a longstanding relationship with the artist and his work, dating back from 30 years ago.
In early 2022, Centre Pompidou in Paris will organise a retrospective of the films and videos of Richard Serra.

Richard Serra was born in San Francisco in 1938. He lives and works in New York.

Richard Serra poursuit avec détermination son œuvre gravé, toujours aussi rigoureux et intense. Ses deux nouvelles compositions titrées Backstop combinent de la gravure et une application de paintstick sur un double panneau jouant sur la masse et l’équilibre, comme souvent dans sa sculpture.
A ces nouvelles œuvres, nous associons plusieurs gravures de la suite Composite, conçues en 2018-19 et dont le tirage minutieux a nécessité de longs mois. Elles mêlent de l’aquatinte et du paintstick appliqué par écran sérigraphique pour aboutir à une texture d’une densité impressionnante.

Cette exposition d’estampes de Richard Serra à la Galerie Lelong & Co., conçue avec l’atelier Gemini G.E.L. de Californie, marque une longue fidélité au travail de l’artiste, initiée il y a plus de trente ans.
Au début de l’année 2022, le Centre Pompidou organisera à Paris une rétrospective des films et vidéos de Richard Serra.
