508 West 24th Street, NY 10011 Masaomi Yasunaga
Tue-Sat 10am-6pm
For his first exhibition in New York since joining Lisson Gallery in April 2021, Masaomi Yasunaga presents a large body of new experimental ceramic work. Yasunaga, a student of the avant-garde ceramic group Sodeisha, continues to question the mandate of functionality within the ceramic medium and craft a new sculptural philosophy. While pottery is typically formed from clay, fired in a kiln and sealed with glaze, Yasunaga adopts glaze as his primary material. Combined with unique raw materials such as feldspars, rocks, metal or glass powders, Yasunaga’s forms are buried in various strata of sand or kaolin to preserve their structure in the firing stage.
