34-35 New Bond Street, W1A 2AA Kenneth Neame: Cadogan Square and Mayfair
Mon-Fri 10am-5pm
5 - 15 December 2022 | London | full auction details
After seven decades of decorating and acquiring antiques for his glittering array of clients, Kenneth Neame is closing his London business. The contents of his London home in Cadogan Square and a selection of his remaining stock from Mayfair will be offered for sale at Sotheby’s New Bond Street. The auction marks the culmination of an illustrious career.
For decades a mainstay of London’s thriving antiques scene, Kenneth opened his first shop in Handel’s House on Brook Street in the 1950’s and rapidly became the destination in Mayfair for those international clients from the Golden Age of Hollywood and the great American and European collectors seeking the unusual, striking and, more often than not, chinoiserie inspired rarity. His iconic taste is broadly represented in the sale, for he decorated his home with the same eye for detail and amusement that characterized his business.
Elegant English and European furniture is accompanied by fine English porcelain, painted and japanned wares and a wonderful selection of paintings.
Of course, a nod to the east is never far away with exotic Chinese school watercolours, reversed painted mirrors and Islamic works all included in the sale.
