After the tragedy and the enormous damages of the Second World War, which meaning could still have the art, to paint? Possessed by a big pessimism towards the mankind and history, even the most important Italian artists, from the 1950s, examined and analyzed all the pain of the world: from Fontana to Morlotti, from Burri to Chighine, from Afro to Romiti, from Capogrossi to Moreni, Santomaso, Tancredi, Gallizio and Vedova. Now with the pulsating and magmatic gesture of the matter, now with a trace and a symbol that sometimes attempt to recover a lost order. Now losing ourselves to the cravings of our subconscious, now trying to reinstate the limits of a possible reason.
