The abstract art of Hubert Pfaffenbichler refers to the origin, so-called atavisms of painting. “Archetypes are always a renewal of art as against complicated forms,” said Pfaffenbichler. However, he also deals with political issues of his time.
Peter Baum: «…The pictorial world of Hubert Pfaffenbichler is a world of the deliberately fragmentary, a view that also uses the banal and stereotypical as a reason for statements and especially in the derived double ambiguity with qualities, which provides a fruitful starting point for the further development of the painter.» (Excerpt from Old and Modern Art, No. 116, May / June 1971)
