Almine Rech presents two exhibitions by Gerasimos Floratos debuting in the fall of 2022. These presentations have been conceived by Floratos in tandem with one another, comprising his most significant display of work in Europe to date. The first of the shows, Maps, consists of new works on canvas and takes place at Almine Rech Brussels. This will be followed shortly thereafter by Hymn, an exhibition of the artist’s sculptures and paintings at Pablo Picasso’s sculpture studio in Boisgeloup (Gisors, France), from October 29 to November 13, 2022.

Maps is Floratos’ first solo exhibition with Almine Rech in Brussels and his second solo exhibition with the gallery. The artist embraces New York City’s hyper-charged atmosphere and reflects its cacophony of chaos in the vibrant anthropomorphic creatures he often depicts. Working from a studio near the heart of Times Square, a place which the artist has been intimately familiar with since childhood, Floratos captures the fast-paced and excitingly anxious nature of New York to explore our collective relationship to an increasingly globalized world.

In conjunction with Maps, a group of unique sculptures in clay, wood, and oil paint will be exhibited alongside Floratos’ paintings to comprise Hymn, a special presentation of Floratos’ work taking place at Pablo Picasso’s former sculpture studio, Chateau Boisgeloup. His sculptures, like his paintings, present vivid and colorful psycho-figurative bodies that examine the effects of urban life on the human mind. Hymn will constitute Floratos’ first exhibition with a specific focus on his sculptural work.

A press release by Anne Dressen, curator at Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, will follow.
