Sotheby’s is pleased to announce the upcoming Contemporary Art | Milan sale, open for bidding from 20 to 27 May.

 

Despite the global pandemic, Sotheby’s in Milan achieved extraordinary results in 2020 for Giorgio Morandi, Mario Schifano and Alighiero Boetti, as well as Liu Ye and Alexander Calder, to name a few.

 

In the wake of the successes achieved last year, Contemporary Art | Milan will present a tightly curated selection of works spanning the post-war era to the present day. The sale will bring together established Italian masters and a selection of international blue-chip artists that have always been under the lens of many Italian far-sighted collectors.

 

Among the top lots included in the sale stands a vibrant work on paper by Cy Twombly from 1959, Sperlonga Drawing, that belongs to a series of drawings that the artist executed during his stay on the Tyrrhenian coast with his wife. The airy and luminous composition of this work includes several graphic and creative elements, which later proved crucial to the artist's career. Further highlights include some works by Alighiero Boetti, Leoncillo, Jannis Kounellis, Anselm Kiefer and Sol LeWitt.

Nonostante la pandemia globale, nel 2020 Sotheby’s a Milano ha conseguito risultati eccezionali per opere di Giorgio Morandi, Mario Schifano e Alighiero Boetti, oltre a quelle di Liu Ye e Alexander Calder, per citare alcuni nomi.

 

Sulla scia dei successi ottenuti lo scorso anno, l’asta Contemporary Art | Milan di maggio includerà una attenta selezione di opere dal primo dopoguerra ad oggi, comprendendo sia gli artisti italiani più richiesti, sia gli artisti “blue-chip” internazionali, da sempre sotto la lente dei collezionisti italiani più lungimiranti.

 

Fra i top lot già confermati, segnaliamo un vibrante disegno di Cy Twombly, eseguito nel 1959, Sperlonga Drawing, che appartiene ad una serie di lavori eseguiti dall’artista durante un soggiorno estivo sulla costa tirrenica insieme alla moglie.

La composizione aerea e luminosa in quest’opera contiene elementi grafici e creativi che saranno fondativi per lo stile dell’artista negli anni a seguire.
