Artist: Chuang Che
Findlay Galleries presents a new exhibition of work by Chuang Che, one of earliest pioneers of contemporary Chinese abstraction.
Born in Beijing in 1947, Che moved to Tawain where he studied at the National Taiwan Normal University. His training involved the development of his interest in calligraphy and the use of color washes created by diluting oil and acrylic paint. Both calligraphy and color washes are evident today in in Che’s unique approach to painting, a personal interpretation of abstraction which synthesizes the formal innovations of Abstract Expressionism with traditional forms of Chinese painting. Nature is a guiding force in Che’s work which references the essence of mountains and landscapes. We invite you to experience Che’s poetic expressions of light, air and earth which explore the boundaries of materials and refuse to be bound by a singular interpretation.
