Alexey Vanushkin’s installation Splay Anthem at Galerie Thomas Schulte challenges viewers to question their visual perception and habit of processing visual information.
The multimedia installation comprises the artist’s work Funerary Flowers consisting of hundreds of red carnations spread across the floor of the gallery’s Corner Space and the video W. Vanushkin’s video assembles elements from film and advertising, which enhance each other to parodistic effect thus enabling the viewer to take a critical stance.
Alexey Vanushkin was born in 1988 in Novosibirsk, Russia. He lives and works in Frankfurt am Main. From 2004 to 2009 he attended the Novosibirsk State College of Arts and finally completed his artistic education at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main 2017, where he studied with Douglas Gordon. Vanushkin‘s works have been included in shows at Galerie Max Mayer, Dusseldorf, Rowing Gallery, London and Galerie Parisa Kind, Frankfurt a. M., among others.
