Sotheby’s is delighted to continue with our longstanding commitment to the field of Australian Aboriginal Art with internationally-promoted annual sales now held in New York. This year’s auction will return to the traditional live auction format and take place on May 25 during the ‘Marquee Month’ of sales, the week following our major offerings of Modern and Contemporary Art including the second part of the Macklowe Collection.

This year’s auction will be the largest and most ambitious Aboriginal Art sale ever held outside Australia. Already consigned are numerous outstanding paintings by Emily Kngwarreye from collections in Europe and the USA, a major William Barak artwork that has remained in a Swiss collection since it was acquired in Australia in 1897, exceptional paintings by acknowledged masters in the field including Anatjari Tjakamarra, Rover Thomas, Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri, Tjumpo Tjapanangka, Kitty Kintilla, Makinti Napanangka, Ronnie Tjampitjinpa, Mick Namarari Tjapaltjarri and a superb collection of fine early bark paintings.
