“this publication presents a series of photographs by Falls which document his time at the Zabludowicz Collection residency programme in Sarvisalo, associated images from his studio and others taken while travelling”

The time-based nature of photography is the core of Sam Falls' practice, which he expands into sculpture, painting and video. New works were produced in the weeks preceding exhibition on Finnish island of Sarvisalo, as part of the Zabludowicz Collection residency programme. Balancing notions of control with the potential for change, Falls encourages the viewer to engage with the material object presented, and in turn a shared relationship with the artist in time, place, and processes of production.

Forms a crucial part of our invitation to Falls, the publication allows scope to show a series of photographs by the artist which document his time in Sarvisalo, associated images from his studio and others snapped while travelling, which flowed through in his thinking to inform the works in the show. It also features a new poem, written by Falls while in Finland. A new essay by Los Angeles-based writer and curator Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer adds a vibrant and kaleidoscopic response to Falls’ practice.

Produced in an edition of 500 to coincide the Zabludowicz Collection solo exhibition: Sam Falls 26 June – 10 August 2014.
