“Jonathan Monk replays, recasts and re-examines seminal works of Conceptual and Minimal art by variously witty, ingenious and irreverent means”

British artist Jonathan Monk replays, recasts and re-examines works of Conceptual and Minimal art by variously witty, ingenious and irreverent means. He reflects on the tendency of contemporary art to devour references, simultaneously paying homage to seminal figures and demystifying the creative process.

This limited edition print was produced for “Portrait (for a Screenplay) of Beth Harmon”, at Tenderpixel. “The Queen’s Gambit”, a novel by author Walter Tevis, was the starting point of this unique project. The novel followed the life of Beth Harmon, an orphan who is discovered to be a chess prodigy, at the age of 8, through to adulthood.
