“an unedited perspective on the varied oeuvre of Boetti”

Published to coincide with the exhibition ‘Alighiero Boetti: Works on Paper’ at Sprovieri, London, in 2012, this catalogue records an exhibition which offered an unedited perspective on the varied oeuvre of Boetti, presenting extremely colourful drawings, collage works, reproduction of objects and postcards which explore the themes of travel, the fascination with different cultures, and time conceived as an elastic and omnipresent element. In fact, Boetti travelled during the 1970s, such as Ethiopia, Guatemala and Afghanistan and the experience of travels and the interest for world’s conflicts resulted in series such as La Stampa: Territori Occupati (La Stampa: Occupied Territories) and Otto Lettere dall’Afghanistan (Eight letters from Afghanistan).

Alighiero Boetti is one of the most influential Post War artists. After starting his career with the Arte Povera movement in 1972 he dissociated himself and travelled to Rome where he collaborated with several artists and explored art through an extremely varied range of means.
