The gallery showcases new sculptures by each artist who all sculpt with wood, yet use the medium in diverse ways, both technically and from a narrative point of view. This exhibition celebrates a material, which contains at its essence a palpable sense of fragility and timelessness.

WOOD is rosenfeld porcini’s fourth themed exhibition, which follows Memory: International Sculpture; The Continuation of Romance, which explored the renaissance of painting in contemporary art; and The Birth of Cinema… And Beyond, an exhibition combining old masters and contemporary works, which commented on the idea of narrative.

Roberto Almagno collects his wood from the forest. Once back in the studio, he spends numerous days reducing and honing the wood into perfectly shaped pieces using an ancient technique of damp and fire. For the occasion, the artists has created an interactive installation where spectators are invited to enter and walk through the sculptures.

Leonardo Drew perceives his practice as a rebirth, taking discarded pieces of wood, which have terminated their natural existence, and transporting them to his studio where they undergo a new beginning, returning to life as integral elements of his sculptures. rosenfeld porcini is proud to present unique paper works produced specifically for this exhibition as well as a larger sculpture by Drew.

Reducing his chosen material to a maximum level of fragility and malleability, Herbert Golser transposes the wood into extraordinary organic sculptures, which appear both completely new yet recognizable from an ancient past. The gallery will be featuring a selection of larger and smaller works by Golser.

Sebastian Gordin creates large installations as if they were little museums to mankind. He combines marquetry with abstract objects and figurative elements to create intricate theatre-like pieces. The artist has also, for a few years now, been producing scenes, which resemble book covers using marquetry. Gordin has produced a large installation as well as multiple of his 'book covers' for WOOD.
